About a year ago I did a review for a book called "Star Wars: Death Troopers." Pretty much, it's Star Wars with zombies. Well, this isn't the first time zombies have entered other worlds. Last year we saw Indiana Jones and the Army of the Dead, where Indy Jones Jr. comes across the walking dead during WWII. Another example is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is Pride and Prejudice's story with zombies. Then there's the infamous Marvel Zombies, where all our beloved heroes rose from the grave.
Whether canon or not, zombies actually make a fun addition to many universes. That had me thinking, "What else needs the dead to return to make it fun again?" I've thought up some that I think needs zombies in them and I'll give what I think would make an interesting storyline with them, whether they be book, movie, or other.
Now, if by some chance there has already been something of this form done, I apologize for not finding it. With that said, let the zombification begin.
Figured I'd start with a big one. The land of Middle Earth has always been well known, but it wasn't until Peter Jackson gave it a worthwhile trilogy in the early 00's that it reached Star Wars/Star Trek level of popularity. Now, to a level, they've already had the dead rise, I mean, the nine Wraiths aren't technically alive or dead (sort of zombies), but we all tend to think of zombies as a mass hoard of hunger craved rotted away beings. Besides, we've seen humans and animals as zombies, why not zombie elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins and maybe even a dragon?
Imagine that the scattered minions of Sauron in his absence try to figure out a new way to strike at Middle Earth. The best they can come up with is a magic infused sickness. It is devastating, but they fail to use it right and they themselves just so happen to be the first victims. Now unleashed, they go to the people of Middle earth as now undead flesh cravers, void of thought or reason. The warriors of all the races think they can handle them, but they soon learn that these aren't your normal minions of Sauron. Now Elron, Gandalf and others must prepare for a war they never imagined.
Again, if this has happened, I apologize since I could really see this happening as a comic. In a way, this is combining two of the most famous fictional post-apocalyptic scenarios ever: robot uprising and zombie plague. The Terminator films have given us some memorable cyborg creations, most notable the Schwartzanator. Imagine that model battling some undead plagues. Come to think of it, we never saw Arnold Schwarzenegger in a zombie film. That would practically write itself.
Skynet have failed time and again to eliminate John Connar and prevent the human resistance which would stall there domination. They've tried multiple Terminators, but the humans have sent both men and machines to stop them. They even tricked John Connar to their HQ and they failed then. They now have a new plan, not using machines at all. Sending back in time to there time humans, who're infected, then spread a disease which would eliminate Connar and many humans as well. Again, the Resistance has sent a terminator to protect John, but Skynet has sent there own as they have encountered an un-forseen factor, the possibility that the plague would eliminate its human programmers.
Arguably one of the most famous video game series of all time, and one of my personal favorites, this would be a fun one. Solid Snake, Big Boss and Raiden have had to due battle with forces beyond rational thinking, examples being Psycho Mantis, Vamp, Volgin and Gene. Now at first thought, it would be to simply put in a normal zombie invasion on its own. However, I've thought of a far more awesome idea. Imagine, cannon be damned, if the Metal Gear Series crossed with the Resident Evil Series? Think of it!
Umbrella again is starting research on the T-Virus, and knowing that the STARS are going to try and stop them, decide to give the best defense the research base can get. That defense is Metal Gear, a mobile tank. However, once again an accident has happened, and Metal Gear, computer controlled, is only designed to prevent intruders, not to stop the outbreak. This makes things more troublesome for both the STARS and Solid Snake who've both arrived on there own missions. Both now depend on each other in order to stop the threat they're both very familiar with.
First of all this is only relating to the video games, not the bullshit Angelina films which where piss loyal. When I got a Playstation ages ago, one of the first games we got was Tomb Raider and its sequels quickly fallowed. Inspired by Indiana Jones, it stars Laura Croft as a gun totting archeologist in short shorts who goes through humans, animals and supernatural menaces in her quest to collect the rarest finds ever. These finds obviously make grand money as she lives in a mansion. Dear Laura has done battle with some impressive baddies; I think it's time some of them are in the lifeless variety.
Searching in one of the biggest Archeological hot spots on the planet, Egypt, Laura is about to find sarcophagus and mummy that's more hidden and guarded then the usual mummy. The Artwork and Hieroglyphics all point to Anubis, god of the dead and his wrath to the ones who try to escape him and death. Sadly, before she claims it, a rival with more help claims the find. Days later, he plans to show it off to the world, but just as the exhibit is shown off, the reason why it was hidden is discovered as all who came in contact with it dies.and rises again. Now Laura, feeling guilty as she helped free this nightmare, she now plans to do something about it.
Figured why not use a historical event. Titanic is one of the most remembered and tragic events in human history showing mans architectural achievements and how they're simple toys in the hands of nature. It's spawned several films in the near 100 years since it occurred (the century anniversary is just two years off), although the one we all know is James Cameron's film, which gave us "I'm the king of the world" and "I'll never let go Jack". Yeah.Avatar wasn't just a film to me, it was Cameron's apology. Anyways, we've seen several film versions, even a BS cartoon version with a rapping dog (I shit you not). I say it's been long enough that a version turned horror would work, and what better version then Zombies on a cruise?
The Titanic, the greatest ship ever created. Leaving England for America, it's going to make history and have people talking for years. Sadly, they made a mistake by picking up a near sinking boat close by. The survivors of it only seem to be sea sick, but they never told them they encountered a new disease from a rare form of fish in the deep. If they had warned them, then maybe the sickness wouldn't have affected men in the crows nest and would have seen the Iceberg sooner. Maybe too the sickened wheel man would have turned faster. But alas, she hit the berg, and the disease is spreading through out the ship, and now two of the worst disasters possible are occurring, and they're trapped in the middle of the icy ocean at night.
Oh, God...this series is killing horror. They took vampires, one of the most feared and iconic creatures of horror, and pussied them up. The werewolves are fucking pathetic as well; they need to constantly wear shorts and cut their hair in order to transform. The teenage girls are just fucking idiots, and of course the fans...they're worse then Gaga's Monsters.
In my version, zombies break out in the northern part of Washington. Zombies eat lame werewolves. Zombies eat gay vampires. Zombies eat stupid teenaged girls. Twilight series ends. Real Vampires become popular again and the world is a much, much better place.
OK, that one was a bit of a joke, calm down Twi-hards. Admit it, you'd still prefer it over the normal films. It's true, don't deny it.
Oh yes, the beloved story that we all loved from our childhood. I've actually read the original book, and I will say that it is pretty dark, even compared to the 1939 classic musical. There are actually a lot of deaths involved, not just the two Witches. Also, Dorothy was a lot younger compared to the films version. I've often thought that Todd McFarlane's "Twisted Land of Oz" would make a great movie, but I doubt we'll see it. Honestly, I want to see some form of The Wizard of Oz turned horror. Why not an undead outbreak?
Dorothy is struggling as her world with her aunt and uncle are literally falling apart. Her Parents have died, and while she loves her relatives, the farm she now lives on is poor and the crops and animals are all dieing off. Seems like death is surrounding her everywhere, to the point where she's almost growing to adore death itself, watching plants and animals dieing. However, one day a twister hits the farm and she's suddenly taken away with the house. When she lands, she finds she's in a new land called Oz. Accidentally killing the Witch of the East, she gains the wrath of the Witch from the West, both of whom have been cursing Oz with a Zombie Plague. Now with a brainless scarecrow, a Rusting Tin man and fearful Lion, they must travel to the last safe haven in Oz, the Emerald City.
That's my list and scenarios. Agree or Disagree, leave a comment. Or feel free to give a suggestion yourself.
