In Horror, there are icons we all love. Dracula, Frankenstein, Michael Meyers, Jason Vorhees, Freddy, Pinhead, Jigsaw, Chucky, the list is endless, and we don't always agree on who's better. So when an argument ensues on the best, usually it's a rumble between the icons.
Said arguments have occasionally come to film. In 2003, we finally got the big show down between Freddy and Jason, and I still consider it a damn good film. Then in 2004 and 2007 we got the war between Aliens and Predators that wasn't nearly as grand (whoever wins, we lose; my ass). Finally, we got Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys…need I say more?
But there could have been other confrontations that would have been just great. So what I'll be listing (In no specific order of best/worst or anything) is a list of showdowns that would have been awesome of seen. I'll list briefly what makes the 2 sides' unique, talk about why they should have a showdown and a Tale of the Tape.
So, let's get it on!
Dracula vs Frankenstein's Creature
Dracula is a Vampire lord, and is a being of pure greed that'll get what he desires most at any cost. With his fang and abilities, he is often a force to be reckoned with, add to the fact that he can interact with normal humans easily. Frankenstein's creature however is a victim forced into a world by one's obsession and has led to a path of misery for many. He never wanted to be what he is, but has rage do to being spited by all and strength to not be bound.
This one I'm kind of cheating on as they've actually shared the screen several times in the past, the most recent I think being Hugh Jackman's Van Hellsing, but usually there was the wolfman or mummy or invisible man and it's never just been the 2. Dracula has many abilities at his disposal, including strength, endurance and heeling ability, along with the ability to change forms. He also can make servants by hypnotizing them with his eyes and warriors by biting them which are just as strong and as deadly, and will obey to the core. The creature also has immense strength and a strong will as he'll stop at nothing to get vengeance (he killed Frankenstein's child brother, his father and lover). He also doesn’t have the weaknesses of Garlic, sunlight or crosses.
Tale of the Tape
Dracula: Can create minions by simply hypnotizing, and deadly warriors with his fangs. Can turn into other forms like bats and has strong endurance.
Frankenstein: Doesn’t have the weaknesses of Sunlight, Garlic or crosses. Has strong strength and un-faltered will to gain justice.
Predators vs Terminators
From out in the galaxy, Predators go out with there tools needed and collect trophies from only the most deadly creatures. Using deadly weapons and effective defensive tools, they collect skulls, hearts and skins of whatever is willing to spill blood. Terminators on the other hand aren’t killing for sport, they're killing on orders. Part of the Skynet, a powerful AI, they do as they're told with deadly accuracy and disguised as normal humans, can accomplish that easily.
I think this might have happened before in some Comics, either way though; a show down visually would have been awesome, as it would have easily been cunning hunting skills vs technologic endurance. Predators would have the upper hand on attacks, they have several styles of weapons, all lethal, and with there cloaking and ability to move easily despite there size, could be a threat to anything walking. They have been known to hunt in packs and work as teams, with the elders being more deadly. Terminators can easily emulate humans and fit in, gaining weapons and tools. They also will not be stopped from full filling there assigned duty, even a simple model 101 won't give in as shown when Sarah Connor was nearly killed by one that wouldn't stop despite being half blown to hell, that's not counting the T-1000 or any other higher grade models.
Tale of the Tape
Predators: Wide range of weapons and defense mechanisms, including very destructive suicide bomb. At times hunts with more then 1 of its kind and will make alliances with other races if need be.
Terminators: Can blend in with humans and use whatever means necessary to gain weapons and tools to aid them. They won't give up on its mission until its chip is completely destroyed.
The Creeper vs Dessert Monsters (creatures from the Feast films)
The Creeper is a unique creature, every 23 years for 23 days in the spring, it travels a long highway in an unknown state, using fear to smell out body parts and eating them. After killing and devouring said victims, he's been known to use there bodies to decorate his home(s) using a very affective embalming fluid, or using them to make weapons with. The monsters are also unique, traveling the dessert and attacking in packs to kill and feast on its prey. Even there spawn are deadly at a young age and rather…horny, with quick speed and with no need of aid from its parents.
I've only seen 1 of the Feast films, but the Jeepers Creepers ones are 2 of my very favorites. The Creeper has some very strong advantages, the obvious one being his flight ability, as well as his use of weapons and ability to drive. He can also consume body parts and use that to replace whatever else is damaged. The Monsters however have the numbers game, as even there children can kill and be re-spawned very quickly. Also, there vomit is acid like and after long periods of being on one, can dissolved the flesh.
Tale of the Tape
The Creeper: Can smell creatures with fear, has use of weapons and incredible strength. Also uses a truck at times and has been known to stalk its prey.
Dessert Monsters: Will hunt in packs and can produce more monsters as well. Very clever at times and can consume its prey very fast.
Richard B. Riddick vs Xenomorphs
Richard B. Riddick is a hardened criminal who just can't stay behind bars and leave his path bloodless. Nearly killed as an infant, he grew up to become a convict for murder, getting eyeshined surgery to help him see in the dark (as he was in a prison that would quote "never show him daylight again") and would continually give the law trouble. Xenomorphs are also troublesome, although on a more grand scale. They thrive like an insect colony with 1 birthing queen and create minions via other hosts (the minions changing to the host's anatomy) and have a wide range of means to kill all the way down to there blood.
This is a unique battle of 1 vs many, and while the ball would easily be viewed in the alien's court, don't put down Riddick. While not nearly as lethal, Riddick killed a few night creatures on Hades with ease, he's also in top physical condition, a dangerous and well trained fighter, has a wide range of weapons skill (specializing in blades and knives) and vehicles and has a Furyan attack to knock down ganged up attacks. He also could possibly have his own army, but the events after the second film are left un-known. The Xenomorphs still are a threat; as they have a bladed tale, claws, acid blood, an attack tongue usually attack in numbers. They're also lethal with there face huger stage and there queen, if provoked, will take action herself, who has immense size, strength and a higher mental capacity.
Tale of the Tape
Riddick: Top physical condition, has wide range of attacks with both close quarters and attack weapons. He can also see in the dark, which helps since Xenomorphs usually attack in the dark.
Xenomorphs: Have several deadly means of attack on there bodies, most likely will attack in numbers and are deadly with Face Huggers. The Queen herself could take action and leave the nest, being far more dangerous then any of her spawns.
Kira vs the Joker
Note: I'm not using any one specific version of the Joker for this.
Light was just a teenager in school who enjoyed life, but when he discovered a Death Note dropped from a Death God, he saw that he could change the world for the better. So he started writing names (which if not specified about the death, will have a Heart Attack) and killing off the evils of the world, and was dubbed Kira, the new God. The Joker has had several incarnations and all with different pasts. They all lead to the same thing though, a smile clad man with a white face, green hair, and a blood lust to cause chaos and suffering, and with the wits to keep one step ahead of the ones who'd stop him.
This pairing might have some scratching there heads, but it makes sense as its law vs lawlessness. Kira has the ability to kill anyone by simply knowing there face and name, and has had others who've had Death Notes who've gotten eyes to see ones name and time of life left to get what he needs. His actions have provoked world wide followers to support and fallow his will, viewing him as the next god and absolute authority. The Joker on the other hand doesn’t have powers and doesn’t need them; he can get his hands on any number of weapons and despite his insanity, is very intelligent on stuff (weather it's chemical weapons or thick plots). Above all else, he has several people who're also disturbed to fallow his every whim, and will aid him in his path to absolute anarchy.
Tale of the Tape
Kira: Can kill by simply knowing one's name and face, and has been associated with people who can do the same with much stronger abilities. Has gained millions of loyal followers and has infiltrated police ranks with his real identity.
Joker: Able to gain a wide range of weapons and plan effective and lethal attacks on targets. Can gain any mentally insane or sadistic criminal into his order, easily take hostages and has power in the crime underworld.
Hannibal Lector vs Jigsaw
Note: I have not seen Hannibal Rising, so I will go on without knowledge from that film.
Hannibal Lector, like most, is a carnivore; he loves to eat meat, but unlike the rest of us, is not afraid of eating his own kind. Very intelligent, he can plot very fine plans to gain a meal or escape custody. Jigsaw isn't much of an eater, more a redeemer, as he has made people come to appreciate life even more and making them continue it through blood (weather it's there's or someone else's). Also intelligent, he's plotted out very complex traps and tests to where the people enduring must earn life via suffering to them or another, and often when they think they've escaped, learn they truly haven't.
Here we have easily a battle of the minds. Hannibal intelligence includes the ability to come up with plans on the spot, as seeing a pen being left behind in his cell made him plot a rather genius escape plan away from his imprisonment (which involved some eaten victims along the way). He's also seen prevented attempts against him before and hasn't been afraid to self inflict to prevent capture (cutting of his own hand). Jigsaw intelligence includes more planning and thought process, as he plots out elaborate scenarios to make the ones who're cruel or neglectful of what they have view there errors and go through hell for redemption. He also doesn’t do this alone, as he's had a few apprentices (not all being the most ideal to continue his work) and has had preparations ready in the chance of being found.
Tale of the Tape
Hannibal: Has a lust to devour his victims and can plot devious and cruel ways to do so. Can attack in a mere second and will easily play mind games with people.
Jigsaw: Plots specific tortures for his victims and has them so sophisticated that they're not sure when they'll end. Also has gained assistants and plans for encounters.
Freddy Kruger vs Ash
Freddy was a janitor who would indulge in 2 very dark taboos: not just killing, but killing children, which would lead the parents of the town to burn him. Armed with his bladed fingered glove, Freddy Kruger had his revenge when he escaped hell and returned burned and armed with his glove in the dreams of children to kill them. Ash only wanted a relaxing weekend in a cabin in the woods with his girlfriend, but the forces of evil guided by a sacred book took his love, his hand, and turned him into a warrior of just. Sent back into the dark ages with a chainsaw, double barrel shotgun and recently creating an artificial arm, he's become a knight of good fighting whatever darkness rises into the world.
This battle wouldn't just be fight in both physical and spiritual sense, but would also be a war of classic one liners as both are known for funny dialogue. Freddy has an advantage of attacking during the victim's sleep, which they must attain and once asleep he has abilities that are almost limitless. He can be pulled into the world of the awake and living, but there he's also crafty and fast, as evident by his battle with Jason. Ash though has always had an advantage with weapons, not just his Chainsaw and gun, and can take a good deal of punishment and keep fighting. He's also made allies as he's on a few occasions fought the forces of evil with help, and gotten sugar from lovers too.
Tale of the Tape
Freddy: Completely controls the world of dreams where he usually kills, and has several means to do so. Also dangerous if in the world of the living, and is an affective fighter.
Ash: Usually very well armed and can take a lot of pain. Can plan very strategic attacks and has had help.
Jason Voorhees vs Michael Myers
Note: I'm using the original killers from both series, not the remakes for either.
Jason was born deformed and ugly, and was tormented at camp and nearly drowned, but survived and after seeing his avenging mother killed, took up the role of avenger on his own against all who came to Crystal Lake. Even after he died and was put in the grave, he still wouldn't stop his murderous ways and returned to cause death and suffering. Michael wasn't made into a monster though, he was born one as one night he with out reason killed his sister and waited a decade and a half to try and kills I other. Despite several chances of death, Michael has survived and healed and continue to kill around the 1 night of the year, Halloween.
If any of the fights I've brought to you in this article should have come to being the most….it's this one right here as both are 2 of the most influential names in the genre ever. Jason usually will stick to his weapon of choice being a machete, although he's more then willing to use other weapons, even mechanical ones as shown in his 7th film. The thing that makes him most unique thought is the fact that he's technically a zombie, as he's been killed before and has risen again to continue his vengeance. Michael usually sticks to knives, but will venture to other weapons and while not using anything mechanical, has the ability to drive as well which could do him favors if needed. While not being dead like his challenger and has a life limit, Michael has shown strong intelligence on several occasions and used it to get himself out of troublesome situations.
Jason: Has a wide range of weapons, very familiar with his territory at the lake and incredible strength. Is in fact dead and can take some punishment that'll kill him and keep going.
Michael: Can kill very creatively with numerous items, can drive and has strong endurance. Very intelligent and has used it to get what he wants or keep himself out of harms way.
So there you have it, the showdowns that would of fucking rocked. Some of you might notice thought that I just gave a basic run down of them, showed the strengths of both sides and left it there with no 1 winner.
Here's the thing: I'll you decide the winners. Down below in the comments section, post your results for the fights, weather its brief or you have a reason why. Be aware that others might disagree with you, and be respectful of others who'll disagree. So who do you think would die? Who would win? Speak your results.
