I get free stuff all the time for running this site. I get free movies for review, I get free movies that my writers review (for screen shots, wink wink, nudge, nudge), I get publicity packs with posters and lobby cards, hell, I've even been given a custom made barf bag, but with the possible exception of when I got my copy of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer and the Bikini Bloodbath series, nothing compares to getting the next issue of Lunchmeat in the mail.

I'm being completely serious here. This indie zine rocks. Of all the magazines sitting on my coffee table (which run the gamut between horror, MMA, punk zines, and my wife's Parent magazines) the first one everyone picks up is Lunchmeat. Maybe it's the vibrant colors of the extremely gory covers (now even shinier) or maybe it's the fact that people are amazed that someone still cares enough about VHS to devote an entire self produced and financed magazine to the dead technology. A horror mag about dead technology, how appropriate.

As with every issue, this one's packed with reviews of movies that have never seen the light of day on DVD. Featuring movies like: Skullduggery, Mutant Hunt, Zombie Nightmare, The Black Room, Screamtime, W, Paperhouse, The Abomination, and many more, you know this is required reading for all you genre hounds out there. On top of that, there's an interview with legendary Killer Workout and Sledgehammer director/writer David A. Prior. But wait, there's more! You also get the customary crossword puzzle, a rundown of the sadly overlooked 1980's TV series Monsters, and much, much more. Could you ask for more? You could, but you'd probably be an asshole.

As I said earlier, the cover has a new, shinier look, but the guts are the same as ever. And I mean that in the best way possible. It still has the cut-and-paste indie zine look and feel of old punk fanzines, but the overall quality is much better than you'd expect from such publications. The folks behind this magazine's passion shows in their dedication to detail. Most movies get a full page review and each review comes with a full cover scan showcasing the blemishes and stickers that those of us that grew up on video tapes love and weep over nostalgically.

Okay, enough dick sucking. Go order your copy at either their MySpace page (myspace.com/lunchmeatzine) or on EBay (click click). At $6 an issue it's cheaper than Rue Morgue and Fango and infinitely cooler.

Now, I just have to wait three months til the next one comes out.
