I’ve been a horror fan for most of my life. The first horror movie I remember ever seeing was the original Amityville Horror. And even though I now think it’s a pretty retarded movie, I spent the entire duration of it with my hands over my eyes, peeking through the cracks between my fingers. It made me a horror fan and I’ve never looked back.

Of all the things that have come into my life, horror, comic books, MMA, girls, my other notable love, not counting God and my family, has been punk rock. Almost all my energy between my teen years and when I started this site last year was wholly devoted, in one way or another, to punk. I spent almost two decades playing in shitting bands, seeing shitty bands, promoting shitty bands, letting shitty bands sleep on my couch and floor, and running websites for shitty bands. I was one of those kids who had a completely ridiculous Mohawk, multiple facial piercings, band patches sown on all my clothes, and looked like I needed a shower really, really badly. I will have to say though, that I never asked random strangers for spare change. Okay, maybe once, but that was just because my friend passed out down by the river during Marti Gras and I needed trolley fare to get him home before the cops arrested him for vagrancy.

Where I’m going with all this is that, the ethics and habits that I developed during those years, and continue to follow today, have shaped this zine into something I think is truly unique. From the style to the philosophy that drives the site, it was all shaped during my punk rock years.

I’ve always loved making flyers and fanzines. Every band I’ve ever been in, and there’s been a lot, has always appointed me the media guy. Give me a Sharpie, a photocopier and a pair of scissors and I’m a one man print company. D.I.Y. or Die!, it’s not just a slogan, it’s a way of life. I could go to Kinkos and put out an entire fanzine in one night. And be totally happy to do it. I have no natural artistic ability. None. But when I started to do cut-n-paste, I realized you could take existing pictures and images and recreated/recycle them into something fresh, cool and new. And, stylistically, that’s how I approach this website: as a digital version of a cut-n-paste fanzine. Google Images provides the pictures and my fine staff of writers provides the text. I’m pretty sure I break numerous copy-right laws every issue, but I stay away from original pieces of art and only use pictures and stills from the movies were covering. If anyone wants to sue me, bring it on. I ain’t got no money and my house is running me into the ground, so you can have it all if you really want it.

I also think this site is run with a total punk ethic and philosophy. If you have something to say about horror or b-movies, and can say it in a marginally coherent way, I’ll publish you. I’ve put up reviews and articles from people whose opinions I think are completely retarded and printed submissions from writers I’m pretty sure are functionally illiterate. Everyone has a voice and who am I to say whether they should or shouldn’t be heard. We’ve covered movies I feel our completely ridiculous and vaguely morally reprehensible (I’m looking at you, you damn dirty Italians) and okayed articles on movies I have absolutely no interested in seeing (Necromantic), and you know what, I usually enjoy the reviews/articles about those movies and learn something new. We need to expose ourselves to ideas and thoughts we normally don’t consider, if for no other reason that to re-evaluate and strengthen our own ideals and thoughts.

And finally, the last thing that punk has defined for this site is the money and finances department. No one gets paid and we don’t sell ads. Once you start selling ads and paying people this stops being a labor of love and becomes a job, with all the bullshit that the idea of having a job carries along with it. Somehow in my mind it makes it pure and honest if you do it for entirely personal reasons and out of love for your subject. Money just seems to fuck everything up.

That's it, my whole theory on cut-n-paste politics and how it relates to our site. Enjoy the issue.
